Thank you David , my apology - I was a little rude. I think in all situations where we interact with other human beings we should be honest when it comes to infectious disease. Maybe a good escort agency with all 'hiv-positive' working prostitutes would be a very beneficial community development :-) For both men and women. It would take the edge off the sexual desperation so many people feel when they cant openly pursue a normal natural sexual relationship let alone love. But it would have to be fully funded by the State and when sexual offenders with HIV came before the courts , well they could be directed kindly to the services of a sensualist as we are sensual beings . Without touch over a long period of time , people lose something fundamental to their humanness. Nice blog David :-)

how do you define ''safe sex'' ? is using a condom all it takes -? there are many infectious conditions that condoms do not 'cover'(a wee pun) if you follow the letter of the law on the definition of hiv and you accept that you carry an infectious condition that may cause premature death may lead to life long stigma by association, life long medication side effects etc, then whether you 'infect' your sexual partner or not there has to be some societal reprimand and the law should exercise it. perhaps just as we issue tickets / fines for speeding / drunk driving - whether a person is killed by our actions or not , we should do the same with what society and the law defines as sexual recklessness. if you agree that hiv is fatal that it kills ..then how the law ignore those who take risks but just dont get caught by your standards ? this notion that it is okay as long as you got away with it makes me wonder is hiv really that bad ? if we on the one hand speak in tongues and refer to hiv as a plague a pandemic thundering across the globe slaying millions in its wake then the law should really follow through on setting an example . i can understand how in intimate situations where there is a power conflict, someone who knows they are hiv positive according to law may fear to disclose may find themselves in a circumstance that inhibits honesty not by a wish to deceive but through fear. for the same reason they may be unable to say no to sex. i think you need your big ass kicked into shape for saying that prostitutes are 'fair game ' - when one of the great ''ad on'' campaigns of the last decade ..(and there have been so many...)in so called AIDS 'prevention' has been the empowerment of sex workers , many of whom do not choose to work as prostitutes .they have no choice if they want to survive , if they want a better life for their children, in the absence of real employment and education. opportunities. disease is not all about one on one contact either if we want to point fingers around the party. globalisation has brought about a market for sex tourism that seems insatiable , much of it underground populated by the human trafficking - even in ireland where i live and even in NY . these women do not deserve the further insult of being fucked by men who know they carry an infectious disease, commercial transaction or not. to imply that it would be okay to lie and deceive a prostitute into engaging in unprotected sex when you have any STDs that may have a profound impact on your health your ability to continue to work and your survival is the arrogance of the affluent and - the predator. ___________ Julianna, I haven't quite gotten a handle on how the software works, so I do apologiize if this appears inside your comment. Having said that, I completely agree that we must respect the rights and feelings of all men and women, in whatever profession. This is a controversial issue for all of us, and it is one that must be faced by each and every one of us with dignity and grace. Like it or not, throughout human history there have always been some circumstances under which otherwise unfair or unsatisfactory conduct has been tolerated. In the end, we must behave reasonably with each other. Where and when government should be involved in human person affairs is a different and equally legitimate question, and as your comment eloquently shows, we all have our opinions. There are so many wrongs committed daily by so many people that it may well be beyond anyone's capacity to even comprehend. We are a young and often foolish species with much to learn. My love and respect, David
