The Air Car, developed by ex-Formula One engineer Guy Nègre for Luxembourg-based MDI, uses compressed air, as opposed to the gas-and-oxygen explosions of internal-combustion models, to push its engine’s pistons. Some 6000 zero-emissions Air Cars are scheduled to hit Indian streets in August of 2008. go figer it will never make it to the USA we are to good for it Barring any last-minute design changes on the way to production, the Air Car should be surprisingly practical. The $12,700 CityCAT, one of a handful of planned Air Car models, can hit 68 mph and has a range of 125 miles. It will take only a few minutes for the CityCAT to refuel at gas stations equipped with custom air compressor units; MDI says it should cost around $2 to fill the car’s carbon-fiber tanks with 340 liters of air at 4350 psi. Drivers also will be able to plug into the electrical grid and use the car’s built-in compressor to refill the tanks in about 4 hours. Of course, the Air Car will likely never hit American shores, especially considering its all-glue construction. But that doesn’t mean the major automakers can write it off as a bizarre Indian experiment — MDI has signed deals to bring its design to 12 more countries, including Germany, Israel and South Africa.
David, I just heard a leading Dem say we should continue to attack US oil companies and speculators! As long as these moron(or crooks)stay this course oil will only continue to go higher. I do believe we should raise margin rates on speculators, if this had been done on mortgages just several years ago,there would be no real estate disaster. We have Bin Greenspan,Rep congress and Barney Frank to thank for that disaster. Oil will come down drastically at some point. Price will kill demand but will also bring recession. Is the price we have to pay to protect polar bears and herds of animals no one has ever seen in Alaska? Failing to drill on our own lands,while China drills just off the Florida coast is criminal if not traitorous! Are Dems and Reps taking payoffs from Opec? I dont know but this makes no sense. We should be drilling where ever we can find it. Dems and libs seem possessed by some belief that all bad in the world is caused by human actions. Shit happens. The man made global warming hoax is gonna destroy our economy and country. So because we are gonna run out fossil fuels at some time we should destroy our country? The rest of the world is drilling like crazy and we are hogtied by the flat earth crowd. It is insanity. High oil prices are the only thing that will bring alternative energy to the masses but we dont have to destroy our economy and country in the process. The current ethanol debacle,where congress is giving money to rich farmers so they can get votes and we can burn our food supply is what happens when the government gets involved in the market. What about Nuclear? Dems have stopped every construction project. What about refineries? No new refineries in thirty years! And people wonder why gasoline is so high. As you can tell I am pissed because this could all stop tomorrow by simply granting US companies the rights to drill on US lands,in an enviromentally friendly way. Instead the Dems seem to want high oil prices with hopes it will help them in upcoming election. That has to be it. They cant be this stupid.

Jack, you are correct that both parties are responsible for our failed energy policies. In my opinion, however, Obama is more likely to pursue a long-term renewable energy policy that makes sense. Having said that, all of us - whether we are democrats, republicans, socialists or scientologists - need to understand that our planet's supply of fossil fuels really is limited, and while it will require sacrifice in the short run, if we don't end our dependence of fossil fuels now, our children will pay for our selfish overconsumption, and humanity as we know it will end as nothing more than a grim footnote in the history of life on Earth. Now if only I could remember where I left the keys to my Lamborghini...
Man,that is really funny. The Democrats have crippled our energy industry and caused oil prices to skyrocket and you worry about McCain? Yesterdays threat to file lawsuits against OPEC if they dont lower prices reminds me of Clintons policy of taking terrorists to court. That worked real well. The Dems are today going after our Oil industry when it is the government,both Dems and gutless Reps who have caused this crisis. You want oil prices to go down? You announce today US will drill everywhere, and I mean everywhere. You announce new emphasis on nuclear power. You announce new rail initiative. You end the corrupt ethanol subsidy. You end restrictions on new refineries. There has not been a new refinery built in 30 years!!! That is insanity!!! What do these whores do? They go after the only people who can help us, our own energy industry. They are hiding behind this attack hoping the idiots who support them wont find out it is our Congress who has caused this energy crisis the same way they caused the mortgage crisis. Simply, our government is broken. Both parties are in it for personal or political gain,nothing else. Oil has gone up over $30 a bl since 5 idiot Dems demanded Saudis drill more,while the US does not drill anywhere. We have other countries drilling off our coast but dont allow our own corps to do it? Insanity. Madness. And you worry about McCain? I worry about him also because I see no difference between him and Obama or Hillary. All three are big government big spenders who know nothing about business and have never held a real job. Scary.
