Michelle, the difference between Spitzer and Paterson is that Spitzer became governor as a result of his advocating for tougher punishment of "Johns", among other things, and continued to be himself a "John" while resting on that platform. Ergo, he proved himself intellectually dishonest.
Not that I am one to dabble in politics by any means but the man is human, is he not? I'm not saying he was right for dealing with the prostitute when he is married but to me that is an issue that should be taken up with him and his wife behind closed doors. The question should be was his activities affecting his job? This I don't know, if it was then he should've resigned, if it wasn't then what is the big deal? Am I missing something here? And the guy that took his place was merely covering his ass by pointing out his indiscretions before anyone else could. Does that make him better than the other guy? Not really, just smarter and staying one step ahead of the media hounds.
Rob, I'm not certain that we know all of the truth here, but behind the pride and arrogance there is a human being who has lost much as a result of his hypocrisy. If someone moves lawfully earned money around solely to avoid discovery by his family, the government can't establish criminal intent. Your disagreement is understandable and reasonable, but I think he's paid for his hubris. We'll see... - David
Disgree with you on Sptizer...he should not be left alone "to live his life as the very smart, decent and talented individual that he is." First off despite his admirable intellectual capacity, he's not such a smart guy to have risked his personal and professional life all on sex with a prostitute. Second, he's not so decent if he can betray his wife and daughters by having sex outside of his marriage vows with a prostitute; deceit and betrayal are not decent things to do to ones that you love. Also, the transcript I read sugggest that he was interested in having sex with "kristen" the prostitute without a condom. So add on to his transgressions: potentially putting his wife's health/life at risk. Again, not such a decent thing to do to anyone, much less someone you profess to love. Lastly, now that he has resigned, he should be prosecuted. He committted at least two state crimes and one federal crime. Perhaps the average joe (or John in this case) would not normally be prosecuted for having sex with a prostitute, but when you are a self-righteous Attorney General and Governor, you should pay the penalties of violating laws that you have sworn to uphold.
Hi David, I've been reading your blog regularly since its inception but it's Bruce who prompted me to respond! I'm so pleased you got to see Springsteen; when I was diagnosed back in 1991 I told myself I wasn't going to get sick and die til Bruce hung up his guitar. And he hasn't let me down yet! I've now seen him 45 times in concerts and have 5 more in Europe this summer. Your writing is always a real pleasure to read and I am grateful that you share your words with us. Emma
