Aundaray, even though you have nothing to do with it, you HAVE to talk about this whole black men-on-the-down-low issue for the public. Whenever I hear about it, I get the sense that this issue is currently the most explosive one among blacks. I'm fascinated because the whole issue makes everyone lose their heads. What do you have to say about black men who are essentially bisexual, pass along the virus to women who have NO fucking clue that their men are gay, and then show indifference to it all? Because I sense that frustration among black women. I sensed it even on Oprah. Black women are pissed/outraged that their men are gay (which is ironic since they seem so far out religious about very rigid sexist ideas of men as provider, partner, father figure, 100% hetero, etc) and some suggested on Oprah that without black men, they would have NO partners (again, that reverse racism when it comes to your own family). So why the hell are black men indifferent to the deadly crime they're committing against women?? Every bisexual man on TV with AIDS just seems to shrug when their innocent wives/girlfriends get infected. It pisses me off because I just don't know WHAT to think of it. It is just sexism that is colorless anyway?? Do black women not fit the stereotype of beauty (unless you're Vanessa Williams or some shit) among men? What is going on?? It just adds to the stereotype that black men don't care about human life. Please explain soon. Once again, I'm not black but this issue confuses all my peers. We just don't get it. It's somewhat like the hair issue that took major time to understand (weave? relaxing? Women who spend a fucking 10,000 per year in a SALON???)

I LOVE your individuality, AIDS and all. Gay black men have EXPLODED the rigid suffocating ideas of what it means to be black to black people. And I'm not even black. I LOVE watching people struggle to deal with their prejudices when they face real diversity, especially in the black community where old guard types are some of the most inflexible, harsh, even inhumane people in any neighborhood (I include church leaders, men of the family, tough hoods on the corner, etc) As a woman, I shudder when I meet extremely prejudiced black women who believe they are "wise" above everyone else.
