Long Term Survivor

Read the whole article. Why was his housing situation left to the very bottom? That was key to his decision. If someone finds that taking 6 pills a day, by adding in a doctor's visit every month, is so very much easier than taking 7 pills a day, more power to them. But it seems as if adding the extra trip to the doctor would cause more anxiety. Worse, it would add a lot more time to get HIV treatment. The same trip to the pharmacy to pick up the other pills will do for getting HIV meds.

I don't understand 'pill fatigue'. I've seen it in people who treat prep like a party drug but i've been on medication for 34 years. I thought i would die a long time ago. I've seen friends die. I keep taking it. I wonder why I have not died and maybe it would be easier to stop taking it... but i keep taking it. It keeps me alive. it keeps me here. despite the side effects, I'm still here... for some reason, doing whatever I am supposed to be doing.

Positive since 1985. Now 77. Started AZT as soon as I could get it. Took just about everything that came along as virus replicated and became resistant. Maybe missed, by accident, 10 doses over 40 years. I am not stupid. Pill side effects were awful for a long time. Better than being dead or horribly impaired. Lost my partner of 28 years because he silently stopped taking his meds and developed a brain tumor. Meds are expensive so it is like eating gold. Lucky me! No sympathy for pill fatigue.

Longtime and done

I have been taking meds since day one over thirty five years ago. I’m so over it. I guess I’m lucky with insurance but at the beginning of the year I have so much anxiety about the cost that it is unbearable. Sometimes I just want to guit.

I was diagnosis 03/1998. I am in remarkably good health despite the HIV, per-diabetes, Hyperlipidemia. I take 7 medications a day, 2 twice a day, and about 11 supplements! Just amazed that my liver and kidneys are in phenomenal shape despite. The way I became 99%+ "adherent", was that from the very beginning, I used the "Med Boxes" and every Sunday for 27 years filled it up for the week, that way, because I have always worked full time and have a very busy schedule, this is a MUST to adhere.
