May this man rest in peace, but the real story here is about the lack of systematic HIV screening: why was he only diagnosed at 84? It is stretching credulity to believe that he was sexually active at that age, and if he received HIV through a blood product, it's medical malfeasance. While it's good to know that he was compliant in taking his medications, it's hardly worth studying.
I agree with duganson that the title was misleading. In just a few years I will have lived with the virus longer than he has. Where's the evidence that the medication prolonged his life as if he never had it to begin with? What if he might have lived to be 142? Why is funding this research such a cruel farce?
PLEASE..Restate...He is the oldest person 'to have been diagnosed with HIV' NOT OLDEST HAVING LIVED WITH HIV! He has been poz for only 16 years..while i have been poz FOR 36 YEARS!

I've been poz for over 40 years now - roughly 43. And here I am, about to celebrate my 63rd birthday undetectable and with a T-cell count of over 1400. So I've got the gentleman in this article beat by a mile.
