Stigma exists for a legitimate reason. You can’t “wish it away,” and you can’t “legislate it away” without fascistic bloodshed. Illegitimate stigma will right itself if the basis of the stigma is ultimately revealed to be unfounded and irrational. If it doesn’t, the object of the stigma has earned it.
