As the US takes such cruel steps backward, I have been thinking about Bob Hattoy, the man who taught me how wise and funny and kind a gay man could be. I met him just as he was beginning to acknowledge he was gay, working with him on the Muskie campaign in Orange County. When I watch the cruelty toward the LGBTQ Community, I wish the people applauding those actions could have a friend like Bob and understand there is no justification for their hatred and fear.
